Wayne County Airport secures $5 million grant for new taxiway

Planes flying into the Wayne County Airport next year should expect a much smoother ride after they land.

The U.S. Department of Transportation awarded the county airport more than $5 million in grant funding under the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airport Improvement Program (AIP), U.S. Rep. Anthony Gonzalez announced Wednesday. The grant money will go toward designing and constructing a full-length parallel taxiway this fiscal year. The estimated cost of the project is $5.2 million.

“I am thrilled to see the FAA recognize the role smaller general aviation airports, including ours in Wayne County, play in growing local economies,” Gonzalez said in a news release. “This grant will enable Wayne County Airport to improve its taxiway and continue serving our community and local businesses for years to come.”
